Have you ever watched a professional boxing match? When professional boxing was popular during my era, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Caesar Chavez, and George Foreman were the names that were mentioned.

What constituted a good fight? For some, it was seeing the component beaten by a TKO (technical knockout); for some, it was seeing the underdog beat the champion, and for others it was a pound-for-pound fight until the 12th round. Those viewers wanted their money’s worth.

Prior to the main event, the boxing match everyone desires to see, the commentators, provide insight on each boxer’s training regime. When we can hear and see the mental and physical preparation, it gets us more anxious lends to promoting.

For example, remember the movie, Rocky? I recall seeing him carrying tree logs, training in the woods and using what he had to prepare for the fight of his life. There were so many parts to the Rocky series, I have NO idea what he did in which movie, without reviewing again, but I know that he prepared and he trained diligently.

The Bible speaks of a good fight, and this had me wondering; spiritually, what is a good fight?

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witness. 1 Timothy 6:12 (NKJV)

What is the good fight of faith?

A good fight is being ready. You are prepared for the battle. We know that our enemy is preparing daily. He is like Rocky; he is using every tactic and ploy to defeat you. Even the smallest of matters become large mountains, if not careful. The fight that we are in is not only against evil in the world, but our own fleshly desires. We must fight at all cost, not to give in to seducing spirits.

The fact of the matter is, he is already defeated. Unfortunately, we are unable to claim the victory because we have not equipped ourselves. We must be fully equipped, wearing our armor always, the WHOLE armor of God, because our fight is not only with what we can see, but even in places and spaces that we cannot see. Notice Ephesians 6:13 says the armor of God. It is not our armor. It is not our weaponry. If we could do it alone, why would need a Savior? Why would we need God’s armor.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 2 Corinthians 10:4 (NKJV)

We are to continue in the word, believe it by faith, regardless of the appearance and our perception of defeat. A victorious life will not come easy; you will have to prove who you believe, who you trust, and who you will obey.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Romans 8:35, 37 (NKJV)

Whatever you do, do not quit! That is fighting the good fight of faith. Although you cannot envision the outcome of victory, know that it is there, if you just continue to fight with the appropriate equipment.

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4 (NKJV)

Fight with purpose, because your enemy has a purpose in his fight with you: To steal, kill, and to destroy you. The fight is good, but only if you are prepared.

So now this is how I run—not without a clear goal in sight. I fight like a boxer in the ring, not like someone who is shadowboxing. 1 Corinthians 9:26-27 (CEB)
