Waiting for something to happen requires patience, but it is not the easiest to do. For example, waiting for the administrator to call your name for your annual physical seems like eternity. Or recall when you were a 7th grader and the time it took to for the bell to sound to conclude the end of the day…for everrrr. Let’s not forget the nine long months it takes to deliver a child- uhhh the agony.
Here’s one: Waiting for the cue to walk down the aisle, as the bride, the groom, or the guests – geez!
With all these scenarios, there is an anticipation of something better. The results of your annual checkup to confirm that you are well, the sound that confirms the end of the school day (need I say more). The introduction of the child its parents for the first time after almost a year’s time, and of course, the revealing of the beautiful bride exchanging vows with her soon to be spouse.
Might I propose one more example of waiting – Jesus waited for us. If you reminisce back to where you were and where you are now, you should experience an emotion of gratitude, praise, and gratefulness. Let me propose another thought: Where would we be if the Lord had left us?
- Where would we be if God left us in a state of depression?
- Where would we be if God left us on the stressful job?
- Where would we be if God left us in the hospital while we were awaiting the surgical procedure?
- Where would we be if God left us being addicted to prescription drugs, alcohol, or street drugs?
- Where would we be if God left us when we needed Him most?
But He did not leave; He waited. God, you waited. You personally waited.
God waited, when we denied His existence.
God waited when we closed our ears to His principles.
God waited when we chose to explore other religions and idol gods.
God waited when we chose work, people, and personal interests over Him.
God waited for us to accept His Son Jesus, as our personal Savior.
In fact, it was during the darkest moments that we accepted the light. Please remember this: the presence of darkness does not imply the absence of God.
Bible says it like this:
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4 (NIV)
It is during our darkest of moments and places that we are able to see the light more clearly. God waited for you to reach for him, take His hand and accept His love.
Maybe you are still waiting for something to happen in your life. Do not give up hope. Consider how long God was willing to wait for you. He was so certain that you would choose Him that while you rejected Him, He STILL sent His Son, Jesus.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 (NIV)
We were so important to God that He was willing to wait. That makes me so emotional and just that more willing to present my life completely and totally surrendered to Him.
