Uncomfortable Love

    A dad who walked out of your child’s life without footprints that will lead her to him.
    A family member diagnosed with an illness that makes you question if God is all that “loving.”
    A co-worker who deliberately miscommunicates your work to the team lead, causing others to trust your abilities.
    An employee who intentionally attempts to sabotage your leadership skills.

It is one thing to know a principle; it is another thing altogether to apply it.

When trying to love real people, in the real world, love is the last thing that crosses our mind.

What do you do when loving someone is uncomfortable? When the love is misinterpreted or not reciprocated?

Consider this:

You may think that it is difficult to love who you would feel is unlovable but consider how God demonstrated His love towards us (AND CONTINUES to) when:

  • We are the most difficult.
  • We question His existence.
  • We question is decisions.
  • We call ourselves getting upset with Him.
  • We blame Him for evil- when He has nothing to do with the evil.

Even in the midst of our rejection of Him, our wicked thoughts and polluted verbiage, He still loved us, when it was uncomfortable.

Oh, so you say He is God and He has no feelings? Sure He does. Why would He have been hurt (grieved) to His heart for making man, contemplating the thought of destroying everything?

And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. (Genesis 6:5-6, KJV)

It hurts to love someone and they do not love you back. Rejection hurts. Love covers what the mind cannot comprehend. If you are seeking for a model of unconditional love. Look no further. Imitate Jesus.

Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that.” Ephesians 5:1-2 MSG
